Rate Areas have already been preconfigured for you with every corresponding Post Code for a particular region

The Administration → Shipping & taxes → Rate areas page allows you to control where your store ships to. A rate area is a combination of parameters that represent a geographical area. Rate areas are used to calculate shipping rates and tax charges.

A crucial component of setting up your shipping accurately is to assign the correct Rate Areas to your Shipping Methods that you create within your GreenPickle store. Depending on your business model, this means that you may ship your products Australia wide. Otherwise, if your products are restrictive in nature eg. very heavy or perishable you may only want to or can only send products within certain definable areas. This is where the Rate Areas will be of great assistance to you. This means you can restrict the acceptance and sale of orders only to where you want to deliver. No need to contact customers who have ordered outside your deliverable area only to contact them, cancel and refund. Also, it’s not good customer service and can reflect negatively in your Seller Feedback.

We have based the Rate Areas on Australia Post’s Zones. These zones are almost always adopted and followed by leading courier companies.

Most Australian states are divided into three zones. For example, VIC has Capital (Melbourne), Metropolitan (outer Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Wodonga), and Remote (VIC Country) zones.
